The festival of Ganesh celebrates the Indian god with a procession from the temple dedicated to the elephant-headed god. During this religious procession, coconuts are broken: the shell represents the illusion of the world, the flesh represents individual karma and the coconut water represents the ego. This water is poured out as the representation of Ganesha passes by. Symbolically, by breaking the coconuts, you are offering your heart to Ganesh in exchange for his protection. The festival attracts over ten thousand devotees from all over Europe every year (with the exception of 2020) since 1996. All are welcome to participate in this happy event, thus fostering and creating an atmosphere of cordiality and friendship among the various communities. This work of mine aims at showcasing and celebrating the spirit of conviviality, intimacy and impetus that has been emanating from the streets of the 18eme district during the two performances I have personally attended (2023 and 2024)
