Finding Planet Bekasi
Bekasi, a densely populated and industrial
city in West Java, is often known for its concrete, pollution, and
infamous traffic jams. Some mockingly call it 'Planet Bekasi' for its
perceived remoteness from Jakarta, though it's just 20 minutes away
(well, would be, without traffic). Coming from the Netherlands, where
every inch is meticulously managed, Bekasi’s urban jungle feels like
an adventure to me. With a simple camera in hand, I explore mainly the
area of Jatimulya in my spare time, trying to capture the raw essence
of this unique 'planet' that continues to draw me in. Due to the heavy
pollution, dehazing my photos is always necessary to clear the smog
and reveal the true character of the city.
