Médaille d'argent dans la catégorie « Voyage/Aventures »
I've been documenting the life into some Brazilian favelas for a couple of years. I have photographed dozens of overcoming stories, stories of honest and good people who've been fighting for survival, to provide something to feed their families. I'm especially interested in the children, the sons of slum, the "shantytown kids". They've been growning up among tough life conditions, without appropriate shelter, enough food or clean water. However, for most part of the time, they seem to be extremely happy, running and playing free in anyway and with anything they can put their hands on, helping their mothers with the housework and taking care of the little ones. Photographing these kids it's been a mixed of feelings and sometimes it's hard not to feel the sensation of chest tightness. I hope that throughout my images, I can engage more people to discuss this sad reality of my hometown, finding solutions to improve these family's and children's life.
I would like to express my thanks for the opportunity to participate in this contest, being able to show my work to such an honourable Members and Judges.
