I was raised in a big city and I have lived in large, crowded urban environments all my life. I am fascinated by the business of everyday life in these spaces, but my interest in this series is driven by the sense of fragmentation, separation and loneliness that arises in large, crowded cities. I have attempted to capture the divide between human density and the absence of human interaction. I draw upon the contrast of light and shadow to accentuate a sense of visual and mental isolation and to emphasize the human drama.
